Alert Rules

Configure conditional incident routing, triggers, and threshold evaluations.

Alert rules define when, why, and where SteadyStack dispatches incident notifications.

Trigger Types

  • STATUS_CHANGE: Trigger when a monitor transitions state (e.g., UP -> DOWN, DOWN -> UP, or DEGRADED).
  • LATENCY: Trigger when response time exceeds a static millisecond threshold or dynamic anomaly limit.
  • SSL_EXPIRY: Trigger when an SSL/TLS certificate has fewer than $N$ days remaining before expiration.
  • DNS_WATCHDOG: Trigger if DNS records change unexpectedly.
  • DOMAIN_EXPIRY: Trigger when WHOIS domain registration is nearing expiration.

Example Rule Configuration

  monitor_id    = steadystack_monitor.api.id
  trigger       = "STATUS_CHANGE"
  target_status = "DOWN"
  enabled       = true
  channel_ids   = [
    steadystack_alert_channel.pagerduty_oncall.id,
    steadystack_alert_channel.slack_sre.id
  ]
}
