Multi-Tenant Fleet Management

Techniques for managing hundreds of client websites, tag taxonomies, scoped API tokens, and alert channel isolation.

When scaling an agency or hosting provider beyond 50+ websites, flat lists of monitors become unmanageable. SteadyStack provides a Multi-Tenant Fleet Architecture designed to isolate, search, route, and report on hundreds of client domains effortlessly.

1. Tag Namespace Taxonomy

We recommend adopting a standardized prefix tag convention across your monitoring fleet:

CODE
[scope]:[identifier]

Common Tag Namespaces

NamespaceExample ValuesPurpose
client:client:acme, client:shopify-plusMaps monitor to a specific billing account
env:env:production, env:staging, env:previewDifferentiates live production from dev instances
tier:tier:mission-critical, tier:standardDictates alert urgency and check interval
region:region:us-east, region:eu-centralIdentifies primary hosting cluster location
cms:cms:wordpress, cms:woocommerce, cms:customHelps track platform-wide outages

2. Scoped Alert Routing

You can direct alerts to different teams based on client tags:

  • VIP Clients: Route to PagerDuty with immediate phone call escalation.
  • Internal / Staging Sites: Route to a low-priority Slack #dev-warnings channel.
  • Client Engineering Staff: Route email notifications directly to the client's internal dev team without exposing other clients.

3. Bulk Operations & Search Filters

In the Monitors Dashboard:

  • Fuzzy Search: Filter instantly by typing client:acme in the search bar.
  • Bulk Interval Update: Select 20 monitors at once and change check frequency from 3m to 1m.
  • Bulk Mute / Maintenance: Pause alerting across all monitors matching a specific tag during scheduled infrastructure maintenance.

4. Scoped API Keys for Clients

If a client wants to query their uptime statistics via API or integrate with their internal dashboard, generate a Scoped API Key:

  1. Go to Dashboard → Settings → API Keys.
  2. Click Create Scoped Key.
  3. Select Read-Only permissions.
  4. Restrict access strictly to monitors with client:acmecorp.
  5. Share the key with the client with complete confidence that they cannot access data from other accounts.
